Recently, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, had an interview where he revealed some interesting details about the present and future of ChatGPT’s parent company. During the interview, he confirmed that he is not very good at choosing prices for their AI-powered chatbot paid plans, which later led to a Pro tier that, even at $200, makes OpenAI lose money. Sam Altman also dedicated some words to the OpenAI board members who fired him.

The sudden—and short—crisis within OpenAI in 2023

In November 2023, an unexpected crisis arose within OpenAI when board members decided that Sam Altman should be removed from his position as CEO of the company. The news took the tech industry by surprise, as no previous clues had emerged that pointed in that direction. The board members claimed that Altman was not “consistently candid” as the main reason for their decision.

After a few turbulent days and pressure from different sides, the board members were forced to back down. However, Sam Altman demanded the resignation of the entire board as a requirement to return as CEO of OpenAI.

Sam Altman has harsh words for former OpenAI board members who tried to fire him

Now, in a recent interview, Sam Altman has thrown some harsh words at those who pushed for his dismissal. “[A]ll those people that I feel, like, really f—ed me and f—ed the company were gone, and now I had to clean up their mess,” he told Bloomberg. After his dismissal, the board members had chosen Emmett Shear, co-founder of Twitch, as OpenAI’s new CEO. Shear was only in office for a few days before Altman returned to his old position.

Sam Altman also gave his opinion on the appointment of the new CEO. Apparently, it took him by complete surprise, or so it is implied from his words. “[I] was like, ‘All right, now I’m f—ing really done,’ because that was real disappointment,” he added.

OpenAI is currently in the midst of a transformation into a for-profit organization. The company’s current CEO also said he will provide more details about their plans for proprietary AI chips this year.
