Rockstar Games is rumored to be working on a new game title that will have a medieval setting. The game which is suspected to be called Project Ethos internally is “currently in the pipeline” but nowhere near ready. So players shouldn’t expect to see anything about the game anytime soon.
According to the rumor, Rockstar isn’t looking to launch the medieval game title until after Grand Theft Auto VI. Take this with a grain of salt though as there’s no real confirmation of any kind that points to an open-world medieval game. Everything so far is based on rumors and conjecture. The rumor about a game with a medieval setting seems to have begun with a post on Reddit from a few years ago.
In that post, the user states that information is coming from a source who was right about details on the story for Red Dead Redemption 2 and DLC for GTA Online. The post also mentions, however, that Rockstar’s next game wouldn’t be Bully 2 or GTA VI. Instead, it would be this new open-world medieval game. With the studio looking to launch in late 2021. It’s impossible to tell if any of that information is accurate. What’s clear, is that Rockstar at some point may have paused this upcoming title if it was ever in development. Fast forward to more recent rumors and it seems the game is popping up again.
A Rockstar Games Medieval title might be on the way
As noted by Game Vro and Gizmochina, Rockstar seems to have recently filed for some trademarks that “could be” for this new medieval IP. Budzz0 on X (via PC Focus) has posted screenshots that show Take-Two Interactive applications for a trademark on ‘Project Ethos’ that some are speculating could be the internal name for the new IP. It’s also possible, Buddz0 says, that Project Ethos could be the internal name for a different IP referred to as ‘Agent.’
Rockstar filed for these trademarks in October of this year. Which could mean that it’s ready to move forward with development. Agent is said to be slated for release for the next generation of consoles. Which means it’s quite a few years out. The medieval title meanwhile could be ready within the next few years. According to Budzz0 Rockstar has been working on it for a while. Development is said to have started in 2018 after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2.
