Those of you who like Rocket League should really love this! Psyonix Studios, the company behind Rocket League, is introducing Rocket League Sideswipe for mobile platforms. This is a standalone app version of the popular soccer, racing, Twisted Metal hybrid.

What is this game all about?

If you’re unfamiliar with Rocket League, it’s a really popular game, especially among younger audiences. It’s basically soccer, but instead of people, you play as racecars. You speed across a giant soccer field with your rocket-powered car and try to score as many goals as you can. The soccer ball you use is this giant metal ball that explodes when you make a goal.

Rocket League is one of the most chaotic games you can play. There are explosions, lighting effects, and all sorts of colors and flashes going everywhere- which is why it’s really popular among kids.

Rocket League Sideswipe takes this formula to the second dimension

Rocket League proper is a 3D game that has you flying all around the field, but Rocket League Sideswipe has a 2D perspective. More specifically, it’s 2.5D, as everything’s rendered in 3D, but the perspective is 2D.

The field itself is smaller compared to the original game, and you can expect the visuals, in general, to be toned down to accommodate the mobile hardware.

Even though there are differences between the original and mobile games, you can expect a similar experience. You still have the task of getting the ball into the goal and raking in the points. Also, just as in the original game, there are still a bunch of explosions and lighting effects to fry your retinas.

The 30-second trailer gave us insight into some of the more interesting features we can expect. You will be able to customize your cars with different colors, stickers, and smoke trails. You can even customize the effect that happens when you make a goal. There’s everything from a big puff of smoke to a flaming skull that emerges.

If you’re excited about this game, you’ll have to wait

Rocket League Sideswipe is only available to pre-register for most of the world. Right now, the company is testing it out in Oceana. On the website, it says that a worldwide launch is coming soon, it shouldn’t be too long until you can have it.

It’s a free-to-play game which means that there will be in-app purchases. The download will be a hefty 871MB on Android and it requires at least Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
