Losing your pet can be an incredibly distressing experience, particularly if your furry friend lacks a contact tag. Now, in an effort to address this issue, Ring has launched a new “Pet Tag,” which attaches to your pet’s collar and features a QR code containing essential information about your companion and contact details.

How does it work?

According to Ring, the QR code functions as a digital lifeline, connecting your pet to an accessible app. Therefore, in the unfortunate event that your pet goes missing and encounters someone willing to help, they can simply scan the QR code, which reveals a comprehensive pet profile.

Additionally, pet owners can customize the profile by adding up to five photos, the pet’s name, breed, weight, unique identifying markers, health conditions, medication requirements, and even microchip numbers. However, the most crucial aspect of the profile is the “contact me” feature, which establishes a secure two-way communication channel between the finder and the pet owner. This not only safeguards the owner’s private information, including their address and phone number but also aids in reuniting them with their beloved companions.

“When you turn on Contact Me, and a Ring App user clicks Contact Author on your post, a temporary, intermediary phone number is generated so you can communicate without having to share your phone number, similar to other popular food delivery and rideshare apps,” says Ring.

Furthermore, the company has also collaborated with the Petco Love Lost Foundation to integrate more than 2,500 animal shelters across the United States.

Limitations and pricing

While the Pet Tag is an invaluable tool for pet owners, it’s important to note that it lacks tracking or wireless capabilities, relying solely on the QR code. Nevertheless, for users interested in purchasing, the Pet Tag is available for pre-order on Ring’s official website and Amazon.com for just $9.99. Additionally, the device will start shipping on October 4th.
