A brand new sports docuseries from Box to Box Films will follow the drama unfold from the illustrious horse racing scene in the USA, What’s on Netflix has learned. From interviews with jockeys, owners, and trainers, the new docuseries is set to arrive on Netflix soon, and while details are slim right now, here’s what we know so far.
According to multiple sources, Ride to Survive is an upcoming Netflix Original sports docuseries from Box to Box Films. They’re the same production company behind documentaries such as F1: Drive to Survive, Break Point, Full Swing, Six Nations: Full Contact, Tour de France: Unchained, and Sprint. They’ve helped in large part to spearhead Netflix’s foray into sports-adjacent documentary programming.
We don’t have any further information on the series director, and our understanding is that production began in late 2023. Netflix has yet to unveil the series officially. As for producers, James Gay-Rees and Paul Martin are expected to be listed as executive producers.
The news of Ride to Survive covering horse racing may be somewhat surprising. Since Liberty Media acquired Moto GP, many have predicted a series similar to F1: Drive to Survive with Ride to Survive as a name being a natural fit. It’s worth noting, though, that. Moto GP already has its Drive to Survive equivalent on Amazon Prime, MotoGP Unlimited.
What is Ride to Survive?
The upcoming documentary has limited details. Still, the series will focus on Jockeys, their relationships with the horses they ride and their owners, and the pressures and challenges they face on race day.
We have confirmation that Ride to Survive will at least cover the events from the Triple Crown races: the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. We’ll see the likes of Jockeys, horse owners, and trainers interviewed.

It’s unclear at this time if events/races such as the Breeders’ Cup, Travers Stakes, Arlington Million, Arkansas Derby, and Santa Anita Handicap will be featured. Likewise, we could see interviews with some of the biggest talent in the field right now, whether it’s jockeys like Irad Ortiz, Jr., Tyler Gaffalione, Flavien Prat, or Luis Saez.
