Yesterday, we saw Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 leak in high-resolution renders and a 360-degree, revealing its design in great detail. Today, we have our first look at the Galaxy Z Flip 4 as well, courtesy of the same source. Well-known tipster Steve H. McFly, aka OnLeaks, and 91Mobiles have collaborated to bring 5K resolution renders as well as a 360-degree of the phone. The leaked materials show the upcoming clamshell foldable in all its glory.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a little thicker too
Based on the leaked renders, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will be identical to the Flip 3 in terms of shape and design. It appears to get flatter edges, but only just. The rest of the design language remains unchanged. We still have a similarly sized cover display area on the outside, which also houses two cameras. Physical buttons, holes, and ports appear in identical positions too. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. Samsung’s 2021 clamshell foldable is one of the most beautiful smartphones of recent times. As they say, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
But the upcoming foldable is a little thicker than its predecessor. According to the new report, it will measure 165.1 x 71.9 x 7.2 mm in dimension, against Flip 3’s 166 x 72.2 x 6.9 mm. Although negligible, we are still surprised to see the Galaxy Z Flip 4 coming thicker. Earlier rumors suggested Samsung is working on making its 2022 foldables thinner and lighter.
You might have noticed that the new foldable is negligibly shorter and narrower too. But that could be due to reduced bezels around the display. Hopefully, Samsung has also improved the device’s hinge and folding mechanism so it shuts better when folded. The Flip 3 measures as much as 17.1mm on the hinge side when folded.
Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also coming a little thicker this year. In fact, the Fold lineup is undergoing a minor shape change, with Samsung making it a little shorter but broader to allow for a wider display aspect ratio on the outside. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 isn’t seeing any such aspect ratio changes, as the 22:9 aspect ratio on the Flip 3 is already wider than the rumored 23:9 on the Fold 4.
The new report doesn’t tell much about the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s specs except that it will feature a 6.7-inch main display, which should come with a 120Hz refresh rate. Earlier reports have suggested a Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 1+ processor and a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast charging. You can expect to hear more about this device in the coming weeks.
