The long-awaited trailer for Red One has finally been unwrapped, revealing our first look at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Chris Evans’ holiday action movie. Red One comes courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios and Seven Bucks and should provide audiences with the perfect Christmas gift when it lands in theaters later this year. Red One will feature the exciting team-up between Johnson and Marvel star Chris Evans, with Johnson set to star as Callum Drift, the Commander of the E.L.F., while Evans ditches the superhero persona to play everyman Jack O’Malley, who finds himself dragged into this battle to save Christmas. Spider-Man: No Way Home and Whiplash star J.K. Simmons, meanwhile, will play a superhero Santa Claus in Red One, with Johnson having heaped praise on his Academy Award-winning co-star. “Santa the rockstar. It’s an honor having his six,” Johnson said of starring alongside Simmons. “Another solid work week in the books on our Christmas movie, RED ONE. Directed by Jake Kasdan, with a script written by Chris Morgan, and from an original story by Hiram Garcia, Red One also stars the likes of Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lucy Liu (Kill Bill), Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Nick Kroll (Don’t Worry Darling), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), and Wesley Kimmel (The Book of Boba Fett), and Bonnie Hunt (Jumanji, Toy Story 4) as Mrs. Claus alongside Johnson, Evans, and Simmons.
Red One Promises to Be Miracle on 34th Street and Harry Potter Meets Jumanji
Johnson has been hyping up Red One for some time now, with the Hollywood superstar comparing the movie to the likes of such holiday favorites as Miracle on 34th Street and Harry Potter and the action movie hits Jumanji and Hobbs and Shaw.
“An absolutely wild past month of shooting our new Christmas franchise known as RED ONE,” Johnson says in the caption, which he pairs with several images of himself displaying a variety of classic action hero poses. “Our movie is a big, fun, action packed and fresh new take on Christmas Lore. Think JUMANJI meets MIRACLE ON 34TH ST meets HOBBS & SHAW with a dash of HARRY POTTER and sprinkled on top with my all time favorite Christmas movie, ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE… let all that sink in.”
Red One follows in the footsteps of other Amazon MGM titles such as the critically acclaimed Air and the controversial thriller Saltburn, both of which were given an exclusive theatrical window before being released to streaming via Prime Video. The studio is no doubt hoping to capitalize on the holiday action fun of Red One, as well as the box office draw of The Rock, with the movie sure to be popular among audiences when it hits theaters just in time for Christmas 2024.

is scheduled to be released by Amazon MGM Studios in the United States on November 15, 2024.
