“Life moves fast. One day you’re playing Kick the Can with kids named Flick and Schwartz. The next thing you know, you’re a certified adult.” Peter Billingsley is set to reprise his role as Ralphie Parker nearly 40 years after the initial installment, as the upcoming sequel, A Christmas Story Christmas, is ready to arrive later this month.

HBO Max is responsible for bringing the film to life, as a brand-new trailer has been released, giving audiences their first glimpse into the latest holiday hijinks Ralphie is a part of. The film follows his character as he looks to give his own kids a magical Christmas, as his father did in the original A Christmas Story. Unfortunately, Darren McGavin, who played Old Man Parker in the first movie, passed away in 2006, though his presence is immediately felt throughout the trailer. The official look at A Christmas Story Christmas can be found below.

There are plenty of callbacks to A Christmas Story in the trailer, whether it’s the iconic “Fra-gi-le” line from McGavin’s character or the chaotic Santa Claus scene that ends with Ralphie getting a boot to the face. The official synopsis for A Christmas Story Christmas reads:

“Follows Ralphie, now adult, who returns to the house on Cleveland street to give his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had as a child, reconnecting with childhood friends, and reconciling the passing of his Old Man.”

Fans don’t need to wait long for the project, as A Christmas Story Christmas is nearly ready for release. The film arrives on HBO Max later this month, premiering Nov. 17.

A Christmas Story Christmas Sees Some Familiar Faces

Unfortunately, Melinda Dillon and Darren McGavin will be noticeably absent from the upcoming sequel. However, A Christmas Story Christmas still sees the return of a few familiar faces. Scott Schwartz returns to his iconic role as Flick, the child who was triple-dog-dared to stick his tongue to a pole in the original film.

RD Robb is also returning as Schwartz, while Ian Petrella will once again play Ralphie’s brother, Randy Parker. Petrella has only appeared in a few projects since A Christmas Story was released, marking the upcoming sequel as a significant comeback. However, his overall involvement has yet to be seen.

Clay Kaytis helms the project, with previous work including The Angry Birds Movie and The Christmas Chronicles for Netflix starring Kurt Russell. Fans can tune into A Christmas Story Christmas and hopefully relive some fond memories when the film arrives on HBO Max on Nov. 17.
