In this chilling psychological thriller featuring Emile Hirsch, struggling actor Clayton (Granaderos) is desperate for a role as a demonologist. He contacts Eliza (Mitchell), an expert in devil lore, to help him prepare and spends the weekend at her home. Eliza forces Clayton to confront his troubling past, perform dark rituals, and sacrifice a goat. Does she want to help Clayton, seduce him—or destroy him? The shocking climax will set your soul ablaze.
Devil’s Workshop Brings the Psychological Horror
“I’ve always been attracted to anything that feels realistic,” Devil’s Workshop writer-director Chris von Hoffmann said last year of the projects he likes to take on, via Rue Morgue. “I have a lot of respect for supernatural [horror] and I think there are some very frightening supernatural movies. I think, in general. that if you dig deep into something psychological and very real that people respond to it — like The Social Dilemma, which was the scariest movie I saw last year. I just kind of like realistic stuff. People in general are just really frightening.”
He also seemed to tease what he had in store for Devil’s Workshop, which hadn’t yet been officially announced, by adding: “There’s a feature that we’re deep, deep into right now that we hope to shoot in the fall, which would be perfect aesthetically. It’s kind of a play on film — sort of a two-hander for three-quarters of it. Tonally, it’s kind of like Angel Heart with a little bit more dark humor in it. It’s sort of an erotic, psychological horror film.”
