PlayStation Plus is getting a price hike across all its annual tiers, Sony has officially announced. The news is part of Sony’s blog post about this month’s PlayStation Plus monthly games. The price will increase for the annual membership of the Essential, Extra, and Premium PlayStation Plus plans starting in September.

But there is some nuance here that is worth going over. First however, the prices. PlayStation Plus Essential is going up to $80 for the 12-month plan. That’s a $20 increase. Meanwhile if you’re on the Extra plan your new annual cost is going to be $134.99. That’s a $35 increase. And finally the last tier, PlayStation Plus Premium, is going up to $160 from the current price of $120. An increase of $40.

As noted above these changes will take place in September specifically on September 6 of this year. So if you don’t have an active subscription, or if it’s set to renew shortly after September 6, then you’ll see those changes reflected at that time.

The PlayStation Plus annual price won’t increase right away for current subscribers

Even though prices are changing next week, if you have an active annual subscription you’ll want to make a note of your renewal date. Because that’s an important detail for when you can expect to see the new pricing.

Sony says that current annual subscribers won’t see the price increase until their renewal date that “happens on or after November 6.” That means if you have an annual subscription that won’t renew until sometime in 2024, you won’t be paying the higher price until that time. Sony is quick to point out though that any changes you make after September 6 when the price changes go live, will be subject to the increases. So don’t change your plan until it needs to be renewed.

Alternatively, you might want to buy an extra year before September 6 to lock in some extra time at the lower price if you’re able. Also worth noting is that the increase for each tier is happening globally. So everyone is going to have to pay more and not just one or two regions.
