Google started shipping the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL to early buyers nearly a couple of weeks ago. While the new Pixel phones are being praised for the new upgrades, they are also facing their fair share of problems. First, there were reports of some wireless charging issues on the Pixel 9 (review) series. Some users also complained about the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s camera tilt and touch-related problems.

Now, some users who have migrated from their older Pixels to the Pixel 9 series have reported an auto-brightness problem. According to user reports on Reddit, the auto-brightness feature on the Pixel 9 series is inconsistent. However, there’s an easy fix for the problem, so read on.

Some Pixel 9 users are facing auto-brightness problems after migrating from an older Pixel

A Redditor who goes by the user name “mdwstoned” has posted about complaints regarding the Pixel 9’s auto-brightness feature. The user migrated from the Pixel 7 Pro to the Pixel 9 Pro XL. While they love the overall new experience and upgrades the device brings, there’s a problem with the auto-brightness of the phone.

“I find myself constantly adjusting it up, as it seems to be about 10 points lower than my comfort level. Never had this problem on the 7”, the Redditor recounted his experience in a post.

However, replying to the user’s post, another Redditor “matteventu” said that there’s an easy fix for the Pixel 9’s auto-brightness problem. The user explained that the older Pixel’s auto-brightness settings or models are restored to the Pixel 9 after the migration. This is causing issues related to the brightness as the latest Pixel offers a different display, brightness levels, and other tech.

Here’s how to fix the auto-brightness problem on your Pixel 9

The Redditor “matteventu” explained that you can easily fix the brightness-related issue on your Pixel 9 from the Settings app. For this, go to the Settings > Apps > See all apps. Now, look for Device Health Services and open it. Then, proceed to tap on Storage and Cache > Clear storage. Finally, hit the Reset adaptive brightness settings option to fix this problem.

Once done, the older auto-brightness model from your previous Pixel will be deleted from the Pixel 9. Now, you just have to give your new phone some time to learn your preferred brightness levels. If you are also facing some problems with your Pixel 9 unit, share with us in the comments.
