Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro buyers will get free access to Google One VPN in December. The company recently confirmed this in an official support document (via). It previously said the freebie will be rolled out later this year without giving a precise timeframe. We still don’t have a date, but if you’ve purchased late latest Pixel smartphones and live in a supported country, you will get a free VPN service in December.
Speaking of supported countries, Google’s VPN service is only available in 22 countries. You can check out the full list in the aforementioned support document. It’s not like the company sells its Pixel smartphones in a whole lot more countries. But buyers in markets like India and Singapore are out of luck. This freebie will not be available to them because the feature itself is not available in their region.
Google also states that the free VPN service will not be available to Pixel 7 users with a Workspace account as well as for supervised accounts, including child accounts. But for eligible users, Google One VPN is a decent VPN service. It isn’t the best Android VPN out there as it lacks features and isn’t available widely. However, it is still effective in keeping your online activities private. And as a freebie with your Pixel 7, you should find it pretty useful.
Google‘s VPN service is available as an added perk with a 2TB or higher Google One subscription. This subscription costs $9.99 per month and also gives you extra cloud storage, expert support, storage sharing, Google Store credits, and other perks. If you want these benefits on your Pixel 7, you will have to buy the subscription. It will cost the same, even though you already have free access to the VPN service.
Google is also readying Clear Calling for the Pixel 7
Clear Calling is another feature that Google announced for the Pixel 7 series but is not available at launch. It improves sound clarity during calls by eliminating background noise. The company lists this feature as “coming soon” but we don’t have a timeframe yet.
Meanwhile, in December, Pixel smartphones will also receive the stable Android 13 QPR1 update. The new Feature Drop will bring features like Screen protector mode, animated Quick Settings tiles, and an updated media player scrubber. Some of these features are already available on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, but not all. We will let you know when the update arrives.
