Google began pushing the February 2022 update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro this week. Although this update was meant to fix a handful of bugs, users are now reporting some new issues.
Posts on Reddit, Twitter, and Google’s support page (via Android Authority) describe a Wi-Fi connectivity bug that renders the Quick Settings Wi-Fi toggle useless. Going by user reports, the issue seems to affect both the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro.
Users claim the Quick Settings toggle for Wi-Fi doesn’t work anymore. Users said measures like rebooting, factory data reset, or resetting the Network Settings doesn’t fix the problem. It’s important to note that this problem isn’t affecting all users. So it’s likely the bug is only affecting a few devices out there.
“I just installed the Feb 22 update, and my wifi will not turn on now–I can flip the toggle, but it never actually turns on the wifi, and if I close and reopen the settings page the toggle will be off,” Reddit user u/jacobcullum said.
Google Support’s recommendation of performing a full factory reset doesn’t solve the problem
Google Support reportedly asked the user to conduct a full factory reset of the device. The user says although the factory reset solved the problem for a while, the Wi-Fi toggle was non-functional again after two hours.
Requesting users to perform a full factory reset is usually the go-to answer for Google Support teams. While it seems to fix this problem temporarily, it’s not a permanent solution. This comes just under a day after the update first rolled out to Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users.
This episode is quite frustrating for Pixel 6 owners, and this is certainly not what people expect from a flagship product. This is the third consecutive month where the Pixel update has been far from perfect.
Meanwhile, the February 2022 Pixel update does fix some of the existing bugs that first appeared with the December update. These include the broken auto-rotate function, call dropping, and network connectivity trouble. Although Google hasn’t commented on this new issue, we expect a detailed explanation from the company over the next few days.
