Those of you who own the Google Pixel 6 or 6 Pro will be glad to know that Android 13 will massively improve the fingerprint scanner performance. Well, at least if the latest Android 13 beta is anything to go by.

The Pixel 6 fingerprint scanner gets massively improved thanks to the latest Android 13 update

Android 13 Beta 2 update improves the fingerprint scanner performance on the two devices considerably. That’s something people noticed following the update, and decided to share their experience on Reddit.

A Reddit user ‘just_lurking_through’ said: “I was never one to complain too much about the fingerprint scanner but with this last update, there’s a night and day difference with the speed and reliability. I say this as someone who was never checking for improvements in the fingerprint scanner, I just immediately noticed it”.

In fact, to prove his theory, he even shared a video to show people how fast the phone unlocks now. You can check out that video by clicking here, as it was uploaded to imgur. That does seem to be a lot faster.

He did mention that he still doesn’t recommend people to install this update, though. He notes that Android 13 Beta 2 still has a lot of bugs, so it’s definitely not a daily driver material update.

These fixes will be included in the final Android 13 build, hopefully

These fingerprint scanner updates will be a part of the final Android 13 build, hopefully. So, all you have to do is wait for Google to start rolling them out later this year, and that will hopefully fix fingerprint scanner problems once and for all.

As most of you know, the fingerprint scanner performance is one of the biggest annoyances of using the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Google tried to fix that via updates, but it failed every time. It managed to improve things a bit, but the fingerprint scanner is still not as fast as it should be, nor is it as accurate.

We started to worry the hardware itself is to blame. The Pixel 6a got announced recently, and Google confirmed it will include a new fingerprint scanner. That only added more fuel to the fire. Well, it seems like the fingerprint scanner inside the Pixel 6 series can be fixed via updates, based on this beta build. Those are great news for Pixel 6 series users.
