This time around, we’re comparing two sister smartphones, the OPPO Find X8 Pro vs OnePlus 12. OPPO and OnePlus are sister companies, as they’re both owned by BBK Electronics, so there you go. Yes, the OnePlus 13 already launched, but only in China at this point. In terms of globally available devices, comparing these two kind of makes sense. The OnePlus 12 is still an excellent phone, and they do have a lot in common.

As per usual, we’ll list their specs first, and then move to a number of other categories. We’ll compare their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. Needless to say, the OnePlus 12 is still a notably more affordable option and will remain being so, so it may be worth it for some of you. With that being said, let’s take a look at what these two phones have to offer.

OPPO Find X8 Pro vs OnePlus 12: Design

Both of these smartphones are made out of metal and glass. They’re also similar in terms of size, but they do feel completely different in the hand. Why? Well, the build choices. The OPPO Find X8 Pro has a wider frame all around, and a flat display compared to a curved one on the OnePlus 12. Well, it has a ‘quad micro-curved’ display, but that’s just the glass on top, which is curved on all four sides, just a little bit. The display is still flat on the Find X8 Pro. The backplate is proportional to the front on both phones.

Both smartphones have a centered display camera hole. The bezels around the display are very thin on both phones and uniform as well. The power/lock and volume rocker buttons are located on the right-hand side of both phones, while the alert slider sits on the left side of both of them too. The OPPO Find X8 Pro also has a camera shutter key on the right-hand side, which is kind of multifunctional.

You’ll find a circular camera island on the back of both of these phones. They have different placements and different camera layouts, but they’re both circular. The OPPO Find X8 Pro does have one extra camera in there, though. The OnePlus 12 does have an ever-so-slightly larger display. The phone itself is a bit taller, a bit narrower, and a bit thicker than the OPPO Find X8 Pro. OnePlus’ handset is 5 grams heavier, so that’s not a notable difference either.

In case you’re worried about water resistance, you don’t need to be. The OPPO Find X8 Pro does have better water and dust resistance, though. It comes with IP68 and IP69 rating, while the OnePlus 12 offers an IP65 rating. Both smartphones are quite slippery as well, by the way.

OPPO Find X8 Pro vs OnePlus 12: Display

The OPPO Find X8 Pro features a 6.78-inch 2780 x 1264 LTPO AMOLED display. That panel is flat, but it has a quad micro-curved glass on top. It can project up to 1 billion colors, and offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Dolby Vision is also supported, and the same goes for HDR10+ content. The peak brightness here is up to 4,500 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 90%, while the display is protected by the Gorilla Glass 7i.

The OnePlus 12, on the flip side, comes with a 6.82-inch 3168 x 1440 LTPO AMOLED display. That panel is curved, and it can project up to 1 billion colors. It also has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Dolby Vision is supported, as is HDR10+ content. The peak brightness here is also 4,500 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 91%, while the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects this display.

Both of these panels are outstanding, actually. They’re not only very sharp, but they’re vivid too, and have those deep OLED blacks that you’d expect. The viewing angles are also great, as is the touch response. Both displays also get more than bright enough when you need them too. Just note that you’re dealing with a flat panel on one side and a curved one on the other. Both displays also offer high-frequency PWM dimming.

OPPO Find X8 Pro vs OnePlus 12: Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 fuels the OPPO Find X8 Pro. That is MediaTek’s most powerful chip thus far, a 3nm processor. OPPO also includes up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.0 flash storage. On the flip side, the OnePlus 12 is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, a 4nm processor. Up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM (up to 24GB in China) is included, and UFS 4.0 flash storage is in use here too.

The performance on both smartphones is outstanding. The OnePlus 12 still performs like it did the first day, and there’s no reason not to. That chip is still one of the best, and OnePlus did a great job of optimizing the software too. The OPPO Find X8 Pro is also as smooth as you’d expect, as MediaTek did a great job with its latest flagship chip. No matter what you do with the two devices, they’ll offer great performance in day-to-day tasks.

Something similar can be said for gaming too, actually. No matter what game you end up playing on the two phones, they’ll get the job done. Even the most demanding titles run great on both smartphones, even at the highest of details. Neither phone gets too hot while you use them. They do get a bit warm, but that’s about it. None of that affects the gameplay, nor will it affect you holding the devices or anything like that.

OPPO Find X8 Pro vs OnePlus 12: Battery

There is a 5,910mAh battery included inside the OPPO Find X8 Pro. The OnePlus 12, on the other hand, has a 5,400mAh battery on the inside. OPPO used a silicon-carbon battery inside its smartphone, which is why it managed to include such a large one. The OPPO Find X8 Pro does include better battery life, but the thing is, they’re both outstanding in that regard. The OnePlus 12 is still one of the best-performing battery life smartphones out there.

Getting over 7 or 8 hours of screen-on-time on these two phones was an everyday occurrence for us when we actually used them that intensively. Both phones had plenty of juice left at that point, though the Find X8 Pro was left with more. Just to give you an idea of how outstanding the battery life is, the phone managed to last over 12 hours of screen-on-time during my colleague’s recent trip to Bali. Enough said.

The OPPO Find X8 Pro supports 80W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless charging. The OnePlus 12 supports 100W wired (80W in the US), 50W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless charging. So, yes, the ONePlus 12 does charge a bit faster, but the difference is not that big. Both phones offer immensely fast charging, and both of them also ship with a charger in the retail box.

OPPO Find X8 Pro vs OnePlus 12: Cameras

OPPO’s handset has four 50-megapixel cameras on the back. The OnePlus 12 includes three cameras on its back. The OPPO Find X8 Pro features a 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.4-inch sensor), a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit (120-degree FoV, 1/2.75-inch sensor)), a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (3x optical zoom, 1/2.75-inch sensor), and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (6x optical zoom, 1/2.51-inch sensor).

The OnePlus 12, on the flip side, has a 50-megapixel main camera (1/4-inch sensor), a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera (114-degree FoV, 1/2.0-inch sensor), and a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (3x optical zoom, 1/2.0-inch sensor). Both smartphones are also backed by Hasselblad, whose partnership helped with color tuning a lot, in addition to general image tuning.

Now, do note that the two phones do have the same main cameras. They do offer a bit different performance, as the Find X8 Pro offers basically zero shutter lag. The images also look a bit different, but just a little bit. Both offer outstanding performance with contrasty shots and great HDR performance. The colors are outstanding from both smartphones and low-light performance is also great.

Telephoto photos are better from the OPPO Find X8 Pro, which is not surprising, as it’s more versatile in that regard thanks to two periscope telephoto cameras. Do note that the OnePlus 12 holds its own in that regard, though. The two ultrawide cameras are comparable in terms of performance.

Audio

You’ll also find stereo speakers on both of these phones. The ones on the OPPO Find X8 Pro are a bit louder, however. Both sets of speakers do offer great audio output in general, so no worries there.

There is no audio jack on either one of these devices. You do have a Type-C port at the bottom of both of these smartphones. Bluetooth 5.4 is supported on both devices, in case you prefer wireless audio.
