Apple boarded the AI bandwagon at WWDC 2024 in June by introducing Apple Intelligence. It is the Cupertino tech giant’s take on generative AI tools. The company is expected to launch Apple Intelligence features at some point in October. Ahead of any official announcement, some reports last week suggested that Apple could charge up to $20/month for the advanced features of the new tool. While it may be true, Apple won’t start charging for these features at least any time soon.

Apple may not charge for paid Apple Intelligence features for at least 3 years

In Bloombrg’s latest Power On newsletter, the popular Apple analyst Mark Gurman addressed the latest rumors around Apple Intelligence. Gurman suggests that Apple will eventually start charging for the advanced features of Apple Intelligence. However, he also mentions that Apple will not charge for paid features of Apple Intelligence until 2027.

In the newsletter, Gurman wrote that he expects Apple to build more advanced features on top of the existing Apple Intelligence functionalities. The company will charge for these advanced features. However, he believes that it’ll take Apple at least three years to create something worth charging its users. So it is unlikely users will find paid Apple Intelligence features on their Apple device before 2027 at the earliest.

Paid Apple Intelligence features could have a monthly subscription fee of up to $20

As with other “add-on” services like Apple TV+ or iCloud+, advanced features of Apple Intelligence are likely to carry a price tag. Recent reports suggested that the price of the paid features of Apple Intelligence could reach up to $20/month. The iPhone maker could tie the Apple Intelligence fee to Apple One.

For those unaware, Apple One is the brand’s monthly subscription service. It brings many of Apple’s paid services under one plan. The most basic subscription plan of Apple One costs $19.95/month for individual users. It provides 50GB of iCloud+ space, Apple TV+, Apple Music, and Apple Arcade services in a single plan. Apple could introduce a new Apple One plan covering the premium Apple Intelligence features when they launch in 2027.

That said, Apple was earlier rumored to launch Apple Intelligence features alongside the upcoming iPhone 16 series in September. However, it doesn’t seem to be the case as new reports suggest iPhone 16 users won’t get the AI features out of the box. The users will have to wait a little longer as Apple Intelligence isn’t expected to launch until sometime in October.
