OPPO continues teasing the Find N5 ahead of its global launch on February 20th. In the latest teasers, OPPO confirms the thinness of the device as well as more details on the new hinge.

OPPO is in full gear with teasing their latest smartphone, the Find N5. It is set to be announced officially next week in Singapore, where AndroidHeadlines will be in attendance. OPPO has been teasing that the Find N5 is the world’s thinnest foldable, which means it has to be thinner than the Magic V3. The Magic V3 was already 9.3mm thick folded, and 4.4mm thick when unfolded.

Well today, OPPO shared that the Find N5 is just 8.93mm thick. We’ve seen rumors suggesting that it would be around 4.2mm when unfolded. That is a crazy thin phone, and as we’ve seen from pictures, the phone is barely thick enough to house the USB-C connector.

OPPO also shows how Find N5’s updated hinge makes the phone the slimmest in the world

OPPO also released a video on Weibo showing more details on the Find N5 hinge. It is a “titanium alloy sky hinge”, which features titanium, as well as a 3D-printed titanium wing panel. As you might expect, the process of making this involved many steps, including melting the titanium into liquid form and then converting it to powder, which was then loaded into the 3D printer.

The video also shows that the company is using a new five-spring torque system and a waterdrop design that rolls part of the display inside to help prevent the display from creasing. If you remember, the original foldable Razr from Motorola actually rolled part of the display inside the bezels to provide us with a less noticeable crease, and this was back in 2019.

OPPO waited nearly 16 months to put out a new foldable after the Find N3 (OnePlus Open in some markets) was highly regarded as one of the best foldables in the world. So we’re seeing some pretty big changes for the Find N5 this year. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Open 2 will launch at the same time, since it is only OPPO teasing the phone and not OnePlus.
