OPPO, as many other Android OEMs, has its own version of Android, it’s called ColorOS, and it just reached a huge milestone. There are 500 million monthly active users of ColorOS out there now, on a global scale.
OPPO’s ColorOS now counts 500 million monthly active users
OPPO has announced the news via its official ‘ColorOS’ Twitter handle. The latest version of ColorOS is 12, and this software has been around since September 2013, when version 1.0 was released.
The very first version of ColorOS was based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. So, it has been over 8 years at this point, since ColorOS launched. The software changed drastically over the years, as it evolved into a truly compelling offering.
It is worth noting that ColorOS is not used exclusively by OPPO phones, though. OnePlus’ smartphones in China also use it, as they switched with the OnePlus 9 series.
The OPPO Find X5 series is right around the corner, and it will include the OPPO Find X5 Pro flagship. All phones in that series will ship with Android 12, and ColorOS 12 on top of it.
ColorOS does things a bit differently than Google’s stock Android
ColorOS does look different from Google’s Android offering at this point. In fact, it never looked too similar. It is still Android, though, and the UI will be familiar to those of you who used an Android phone, that’s for sure.
OPPO just did things differently when it comes to design, and it has its own set of features that it offers as part of ColorOS. The main Android features are still there, and the UI will be familiar enough to Android users.
ColorOS 12 still kind of looks like a combination of Android and iOS, at least to us, though OPPO is trying to differentiate, and offer the best of both worlds.
