Last month, OpenAI, the company behind the highly popular ChatGPT AI tool, announced its AI agent called “Operator”, which offers assistance with web browsing and simple tasks. So far, the AI agent was only available for users in the US in the “research preview” version. However, now OpenAI has launched the Operator AI agent in many countries globally.

OpenAI Operator feature starts rolling out in major countries globally

OpenAI’s Operator AI agent has just arrived in new markets where only ChatGPT was available until now. Users can use the Operator AI agent in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and in most countries where ChatGPT is available. Furthermore, the company is working on making Operator available in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Island. OpenAI seems to be taking its time to launch the AI agent in these markets due to some regulatory hurdles.

It’s worth mentioning that only the ChatGPT Pro subscribers can use OpenAI’s AI agent at the moment. Also, the feature is only available on the way as there’s no way of using it through the ChatGPT app for Android. So, you will need to purchase the $200 monthly subscription to ChatGPT Pro to access and benefit from the OpenAI operator tool.

What is the OpenAI Operator AI agent?

OpenAI designed its Operator artificial intelligence agent as an automated personal assistant that can handle different tasks. Some of these include booking airline tickets, making reservations at restaurants, and more. It allows users to execute complex instruction chains, like those needed to order something on Amazon or file expense reports.

Essentially, the Operator feature can do a handful of useful things for you while you browse the web. The AI agent can interact with buttons, menus, and on-screen text fields for things like making to-do lists, planning trips, and more. Furthermore, it can enter credentials for websites to log into your accounts, among other things.

More AI agents are launching soon

Apart from OpenAI, many other companies also offering or working on their AI agents. Perplexity, another AI firm, recently introduced its AI-based assistant for Android called Perplexity Assistant. This one is capable of scheduling trips, setting event reminders, and more.

Google also has its Project Mariner agentic AI, which is still in the development stage at the moment. We will have more companies like xAI launching their own AI agents in the coming months.
