OnePlus recently had to pause and then resume the stable OxygenOS 12 update for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. In addition to the plethora of bugs that were present with the initial rollout of the update, customers also witnessed incompatibility with the two phones’ auxiliary cameras while using Google Camera (GCam) mods. OnePlus is now acknowledging this issue while assuring customers that a fix is on the way.

“Regarding the other reported problems, please rest assured that they are also covered in the follow-up update plan, such as the auto-fill feature in Chrome and the temporary lack of access to the Ultra HD 48M / AUX camera on GCam. We will continue focusing our efforts on improving the software experience and will work on addressing these issues rapidly,” the company said in a OnePlus forum post (via).

This clears up the confusion regarding support for secondary cameras with GCam mods. The issue is particularly frustrating since the Google Camera app offers significantly improved performance over stock camera apps on several devices.

Unfortunately, OnePlus didn’t say when the new update will roll out

There was speculation that the change may have been intentional by OnePlus. But the company has effectively cleared all doubts with the new statement. It’s unclear when the fix will arrive, though, so the wait continues.

The issue likely stems from the shared code between OnePlus’ OxygenOS and OPPO’s ColorOS. Perhaps the incompatibility with GCam mods was an unintended side effect of the new update.

OnePlus was relatively quick to roll out its iteration of Android 12 with the latest OxygenOS release. But the complaints soon began piling up on the company’s forums. Some faced trouble trying to change app icons or even customizing the status bar. Others said they couldn’t disable the battery percentage on top of the screen. A handful of users also found animation and DPI scaling-related problems.

Thankfully, these bugs have been quashed with the latest stable OxygenOS 12 update, which is now rolling out. But it could take a few weeks until it reaches OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro users across the globe. The changelog for this update says it brings System, Camera, and Network related fixes.
