OnePlus just launched a new flagship Android tablet and a mid-range smartphone. The OnePlus Pad 2 and OnePlus Nord 4 arrive with some notable upgrades over their respective predecessors. The tablet goes on sale later this month, while the phone will be available starting in August. Pre-orders are already open in most major markets.
OnePlus Pad 2 official with a bigger display, flagship Snapdragon chip
The OnePlus Pad 2 is a powerful Android tablet with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship processor under the hood. The chip is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The company has fitted the device with a 12.1-inch IPS LCD screen with 3K resolution (2120 x 3000 pixels), 144Hz refresh rate, 900 nits of peak brightness, and Dolby Vision HDR support. The screen also supports stylus input, although the new Stylo 2 stylus is a separate buy.
Made with leather-like material, the Stylo 2 offers improved grip, 16,000 levels of pressure sensitivity, swipe controls, and vibration feedback for a real pen-like writing experience. The OnePlus Pad 2 also has six speakers for stronger audio output. The company says the tablet’s audio system can emulate spatial audio. This makes it great for content consumption, though some people might find its unusual 7:5 screen ratio a bit weird when watching videos.
Like the 2023 model, the new OnePlus tablet has a 13MP rear camera, 8MP selfie camera, 9,510mAh battery, and 67W wired SUPERVOOC charging (charger included). It doesn’t support wireless charging. Wi-Fi 7 is part of the package along with Bluetooth v5.4, NFC, and USB3.2 Gen1 (Type C) port. Featuring an aluminum back and aluminum frame, the OnePlus Pad 2 lacks an official IP rating for dust and water resistance, built-in GPS functionality, and a fingerprint sensor.
This tablet is 6.5mm thick and weighs 584 grams. It runs Android 14-based OxygenOS 14.1 out of the box, offering a host of AI features for enhanced productivity. OnePlus has opened pre-orders for the device. The 12GB+512GB model costs $549.99 and £499 in the UK, but you get $50 off if you pre-order now. General sales begin on July 30. If you plan to buy the Stylo 2, it costs $99.99. The Smart Keyboard is available for $149.99, while the Folio Case 2 costs $39.99.
OnePlus Nord 4 has an improved IP rating and a brighter display
The OnePlus Nord 4 5G features an identical 6.74-inch Fluid AMOLED display as the Nord 3. It offers a 120Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution (1240 x 2772 pixels), and HDR10+ support. However, the company has increased its peak brightness from 1,450 nits to 2,150 nits. It has also switched from a MediaTek processor to Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. The phone comes with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage (UFS 3.1 for the 128GB model).
The new Nord has a stronger build quality thanks to a metal unibody design (aluminum) and an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance. It features a 50MP primary rear camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), PDAF, dual-LED flash, and 4K video recording capabilities. There’s also an 8MP ultrawide lens on the back, while the selfie camera is a 16MP unit. The OnePlus Nord 4 has dual-stereo speakers and an under-display optical fingerprint scanner.
Fueled by a 5,500mAh battery, this phone supports 100W wired SUPERVOOC charging with OnePlus including a charger in the box. Despite a chunky battery, it’s quite slim at just 7.9mm in thickness. Other highlights include an advanced cooling system, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.4, NFC, GPS, and Android 14-based OxygenOS 14.1 software with AI features. The company promises four generations of Android OS updates and six years of security updates for the mid-range phone.
The OnePlus Nord 2 is now available to pre-order in the UK and several other markets in Oasis Green, Obsidian Midnight (black), and Mercurial Silver colors. It costs £429 for the 12GB+256GB model and £529 for the 16GB+512GB model. Open sales start on August 8 in the UK, though sales begin earlier in some other markets. As of this writing, OnePlus hasn’t confirmed its plans for a US release of the phone. If it arrives stateside, expect it to cost around $500.
