The OnePlus Open arrived in late 2023, instantly becoming one of the most attractive foldable phones. The device was directly challenging other big names in the market, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5, with some superior specs. Now, the brand is about to launch a OnePlus Open Apex Edition with improvements in some key aspects, including storage and privacy.
OnePlus did not choose the “Apex” name randomly. The company wants to make it quite clear that this will be the highest-end version of the OnePlus Open. So, the device is not the next-gen product in the lineup. We are probably months away from receiving official updates about a OnePlus Open 2. That said, OnePlus just released a couple of teasers for its Apex foldable, confirming some interesting things.
OnePlus Open Apex Edition storage will bring the brand’s “highest configuration ever”
One of the teasers confirms that the OnePlus Open Apex Edition will offer an impressive configuration with 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage. For reference, the original Open offers up to 512GB of storage (UFS 4.0). The tweet makes it clear that the new model features the “highest configuration ever” in the brand’s history. However, it is unknown if this will be the only variant available, or if there will be other more affordable ones. Chances are it will be the only option, though.

OPPO’s VIP mode on board too
The second teaser offers a glimpse at a potentially improved OPPO’s VIP mode. On flagship OPPO devices, like the Find X7 Ultra, the Alert Slider lets you quickly switch between “normal,” “silent,” and “VIP” modes. The latter basically disables the cameras, microphones, and location services on your device, taking privacy to a new level if you ever require it.

That said, the OnePlus Open Apex Edition teaser shows that it will get a VIP mode. This will make it the first OnePlus phone to offer this, and it’s possible it will behave a little differently. When enabled, the OS disables the cameras and microphones but not location services. This could mean that you can choose what you want to disable when you switch to VIP mode. However, for now, this is just speculation.
Anyway, you won’t have to wait long to find out all about the OnePlus Open Apex Edition. The device is expected to be announced in a couple of days, on August 7.
