According to a new piece of information that surfaced online, OnePlus may be working on an “ultra flagship” smartphone. That device is tipped to launch in the second half of this year.

OnePlus is tipped to launch “ultra flagship” smartphone in H2 2022

This information comes from Yogesh Brar, a tipster. He says that the device is in the EVT phase right now. EVT, for those of you who don’t know, stands for Engineering Validation Test.

The tipster said that the device in question could borrow the MariSilicon NPU from OPPO. That NPU will be included in the upcoming OPPO Find X5 Pro flagship from the company. It has been developed by OPPO.

This is not surprising, as OPPO and OnePlus have never been closer when it comes to sharing tech. These sister companies have started merging a while back, pretty much. The OPPO Find X5 Pro will get the Hasselblad treatment, the one that OnePlus got, and OnePlus will borrow the MariSilicon NPU, it seems.

We’re not really sure what will this “ultra flagship” bring to the tablet, if the rumors are true, but it seems like it will be even more focused on photography than the OnePlus 10 Pro.

The global variant of the OnePlus 10 Pro didn’t launch yet

The global variant of the OnePlus 10 Pro didn’t launch yet, but it is expected to arrive in March. Considering that the device already launched in China, though, we do know that it doesn’t include the MariSilicon NPU.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is already a flagship-grade device, OnePlus packed top-of-the-line specs in it. So, we’re not really sure how can the company improve upon that with this “ultra flagship”, save for the new NPU, of course.

If this device is real, chances are it will be larger than the OnePlus 10 Pro. It will also resemble the OnePlus 10 Pro, most likely. Depending on when it launches, it will either utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, or the ‘Plus’ variant of it, if Qualcomm decides to launch something like that.
