OnePlus announced the OnePlus 10 Pro ‘Extreme Edition’ aka ‘White Edition’ yesterday. That is the company’s brand new white-colored flagship. Soon after that, OnePlus decided to explain why are there less white phones in the market these days.

OnePlus decided to explain why we see less white phones in the market

This explanation comes from Liu Fengshuo, a President of the OnePlus product line. He shared the information via Weibo, and said that there are three main reasons why this is the case.

As the first reason, he listed the production of such phones. He says that white-colored devices with accurate color, material, and finish are more difficult to produce. He says that even a slight variant in the craftsmanship can ruin the final output.

The second reason is… low yield rate. Due to this fact, the cost of producing white-colored phones can be quite high, compared to other colors. He also said that OnePlus tested over 100 effects over a three-month period before they landed on the color for the ‘Panda’ OnePlus 10 Pro, which is also what this new phone is called.

The third reason is… the white color is more prone to fingerprints and smudges. I’m not sure how this is the case, as fingerprints are usually less visible on light colors, especially the white one. They’re usually way more pronounced on darker colors. That is the reason he listed, though, so… there you go.

The ‘White Edition’ OnePlus 10 Pro launched in China only, at least for now

The OnePlus 10 Pro ‘White Edition’ launched in China. As most of you know, the OnePlus 10 Pro didn’t launch globally at all… yet. The phone is expected to land in the near future, but we’re not sure if this white color will be on offer. It could be limited to China.

That would be a shame, as many people tend to like these ‘panda’ colors. On top of that, the phone launched in only three color variants, including the white one.
