Samsung is reportedly allowing users to disable Super HDR on their Galaxy phones running the One UI 7 beta. This is one of the biggest changes in the latest beta build. This option is useful if you prefer simpler image and video displays without the HDR enhancements.

Samsung introduced Super HDR with the Galaxy S24 series. Now it is available on newer phones like Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.

Super HDR can now be disabled across the system in One UI 7

According to a report by Android Authority, One UI 7 update brings a toggle to disable Super HDR system-wide. This toggle is found in the Settings > Advanced Features menu on supported Galaxy devices. The description of the option reads: “automatically adjust the display to show the full range of colors and contrast in pictures taken with Galaxy devices.”

With One UI 6.1, users could only disable Super HDR in the Samsung Gallery app. While that prevented it from enhancing photos in the Gallery app, it still worked in other apps. But with the One UI 7 update disabling Super HDR will stop it system-wide. Now you can ensure Super HDR is off even in third-party apps like Instagram and Threads.

Super HDR enhances image brightness and contrast making pictures and videos look more vibrant. But some users found the brightness levels uncomfortable or unnecessary especially when browsing apps like Instagram. By adding the toggle Samsung is giving users the option to choose how their content looks.

When can you get the One UI 7 update?

Samsung has been a bit slower with its updates this year. Usually, the company releases its stable One UI update before the end of the year, but this time, they delayed the release of the beta update by three months. As a result, the One UI 7 Beta Program started later than usual but the stable version is expected to arrive in February 2025.

Now One UI 7 is available as part of Samsung’s Beta Program for the Galaxy S24 series. Users in select regions including the US can join the program through the Samsung Members app.
