It appears Samsung hadn’t properly tested its Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update before rolling it out to devices. Earlier this month, the company halted the rollout for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 after discovering some serious issues that rendered the phones useless for many users after installing the new update. Now,  it has temporarily suspended the big update for the Galaxy S21 series as well. A Moderator on Samsung’s official community forums in South Korea has revealed that the devices are having some compatibility issues with Google Play following the One UI 4.0 update.

According to the said Samsung executive, the issue isn’t widespread, and that only a “very few devices” are having problems. But it appears the problem is still big enough for the company to halt the rollout. Perhaps it doesn’t want to let the issue affect more handsets.

The Samsung Community Moderator sounded like the company isn’t to blame for these compatibility issues with Google Play. The problem is on the part of Google or at least the Android maker is responsible for fixing it. Once the internet giant gets the issues resolved, the One UI 4.0 update for the Galaxy S21 series will be resumed.

Samsung needs to be more vigilant in testing new software

Samsung released the stable One UI 4.0 update for the Galaxy S21 series last month. So the new software package may have already ended up in millions of devices globally. We expect the company to roll out a hotfix to the units that have already installed the update and are having the said compatibility issues with Google Play.

Meanwhile, the issues that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 users had to face following the One UI 4.0 update were due to bugs that Samsung allowed to sneak into the stable build. It has since fixed those bugs and resumed the big update for the two foldables.

Going forward, we hope the company will be more vigilant while testing the One UI 4.0 for other Galaxy devices. After all, it’s not nice when you have to suddenly pull the plug on official software updates due to bugs. Users have to suffer a lot.

Samsung is currently beta testing One UI 4.0 for the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S10, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and Galaxy Z Flip. We will let you know when the company begins the rollout of the stable update for these devices.
