If you’re looking to build a new gaming PC in 2025, you might want to hold off on buying a GPU just yet. This is because thanks to leaks, images of the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs have made their way online. This would suggest that an official announcement could be close at hand.
Freshly leaked images
The leaks come courtesy of VideoCardz.com which shared an image of the GeForce RTX 5090. Inno3D appears to have manufactured this specific model with its new iChill X3 design. According to the packaging, it features a 3.5-slot thick cooler and a triple fan setup.
In another leak, @wxnod on X shared photos online of the boxes for the RTX 5080.
The boxes themselves don’t really tell us what the GPU could look like. However, it does mention on the front that this particular unit, made by Gainward, will come with 16GB of GDDR7 RAM.
It is not the first time the RTX 5080 was leaked. At the start of the year, a leaked image showed off the RTX 5080 from MSI. Just last week, NVIDIA shared a teaser that hinted at a new GPU with dual front fans. This could be for the RTX-series Founders GPU.
Successor to the RTX 40 series
After releasing the NVIDIA RTX 40 series, the company is expected to follow up with the RTX 50 series. The leaks above suggest that the launch of the new generation of GPUs could be close at hand.
There are rumors suggesting that the new RTX 50 series will use the Blackwell architecture. These rumors also indicate that the series will feature GDDR7 memory, offering faster data transfer speeds compared to previous models.
The rumors are also claiming that these new RTX 50 GPUs could introduce improved ray tracing capabilities. The higher-end RTX 5090 will apparently feature up to 32GB of memory with a 512-bit interface.
There are also rumors that the RTX 5080 will feature a 360W TBP. This represents a 12.5% increase in the power wall compared to the 320W of its predecessor, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU.
There’s no word on pricing yet, but don’t expect these new models to come cheap, though. The prices of GPUs have been going up over the years, no thanks to cryptocurrency miners who have been buying them in bulk. This has led to shortages and increased prices. CES 2025 is taking place this week so hopefully, NVIDIA will have more details to share in the coming days.
