The Nothing Phone (2) will be “more premium” than its predecessor. That’s something Carl Pei said in an interview with Inverse. Nothing’s founder also confirmed that the phone is coming to the US as well, in case you missed that. The Nothing Phone (1) did not launch in the US, but its successor will.

The Nothing Phone (2) will be “more premium” than its predecessor, says Carl Pei

In any case, many of you are probably wondering what does “more premium” mean for Nothing. Well, that’s not an easy question to answer. The Nothing Phone (1) was technically a mid-range smartphone, but it was also Nothing’s flagship at the same time, as it was the company’s only phone.

Carl Pei was asked, straight up, whether the Nothing Phone (2) will feature a more powerful processor this time around. If that’s the reason why he refers to it as a “more premium” device. He said the following: “I think the market and the industry have moved a lot since those days. For us, the Phone (1)’s spec sheet was pretty usable in terms of user experience”.

Pei also added: “Mobile chipsets have really improved over the last 7–9 years. That’s why I want to avoid calling the Phone (2) a flagship because that would mean that the Phone (1) was not a flagship”. He then clarified that the Nothing Phone (2) will be “a more premium step up, but it’s still a flagship just like the Phone (1)”.

It may offer a more powerful processor

From everything that Pei said, we really cannot figure out whether it will ship with a flagship SoC or not. However, even though he was cryptic, his answers do seem to indicate a more powerful offering.

Carl Pei also confirmed that software will be a “big focus” for the company with the Nothing Phone (2). That is always good to hear, as software is immensely important, and some companies still didn’t get the right formula.

Nothing’s founder, of course, did not go into specifics, so, at the moment, we can only guess. If we had to guess, however, we’d say that Nothing will keep its Glyph interface, and perhaps even a similar design.

The Nothing Phone (1) launched back in July last year, so we’re guessing its successor will arrive at a similar time this year. So, there’s still a lot of time until then.
