The Nothing Phone (2) has already grabbed its first certification, at least if my memory serves well. The phone got certified by the BIS authority in India, confirming that the phone is on the way.

This does confirm that the device is on the way to India, but also in general. The phone surfaced with the model number ‘Nothing AIN065’. We, of course, cannot be 100% sure this is the Nothing Phone (2), but considering that’s the only phone expected out of the company… well, it’s pretty obvious.

The Nothing Phone (2) is not expected to launch until Q3, though, unless Nothing plans to change things around. The Nothing Phone (1) arrived in mid-July last year, so its successor is expected around the same time.

Nothing may opt to push things up a bit, and show off the device earlier than expected. We’ll have to wait and see. Some information about the phone already surfaced, but not a lot.

The company did confirm that the device will be fueled by a Snapdragon 8 series SoC. That leaves us with two options, basically, either the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC will fuel the device

Thanks to a slip by Qualcomm’s SVP and GM of Mobile, we do believe it’s going to be the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. He basically accidentally congratulated Nothing on launching the Phone (2) with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, during MWC 2023.

That does make sense, however. Nothing wants to keep the phone as affordable as possible, and using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 would make that very difficult. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is still an outstanding chip with great power consumption, so it makes all the sense in the world to use it.

The phone could arrive with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. A fullHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate is also expected, as is Android 13 with Nothing’s UI on top of it.

A 5,000mAh battery will likely be included in the package, while 67W charging could be included too. The phone will offer wireless charging, and also reverse wireless charging.
