Nothing OS 3.0 leak offers a glimpse into the new Android 15-based update

Android 15 is fast approaching its first stable release. Several Android smartphone manufacturers are developing their iterations based on the latest Android version.

The Nothing company has been quite fast in releasing updates. The latest update, tagged Nothing OS 2.5, is based on Android 15. It will be succeeded by Nothing OS 3.0, and a beta version has leaked online.

Smartphone enthusiasts over at Smartprix managed to install a preliminary release of Nothing OS 3.0 on a Nothing Phone 2a. The Nothing OS 3.0 is based on the Android 15 Beta update. What this means is that this version of Nothing OS might not be final and it is certainly not meant for general users.

The Nothing company appears to have remained loyal to the iconic Dot Matrix font and theme in the Nothing OS 3. Nothing Co. has even added this font in a few new areas. However, the dot matrix font is reportedly less prevalent than it once was.

What are the new changes, features, and functions in the update?

The Nothing OS 3.0 is packed with several features that the Android OS 15’s stable version would ship with. However, the most noticeable aspect of the update would undoubtedly be the animations and the customizations.

From the boot-up screen to user authentication, and from the redesigned Settings app to the lock screen, the Nothing OS 3.0 has been revamped from the ground up. The Nothing Co. has even redesigned the Control Center and added resizable toggles for quicker toggling of functions. It also adapts to the light mode that’s in effect.

The Android 15 OS update has improved lock screen customizations and the same is visible in the Nothing OS 3.0 update. A new “Customize lock screen” option takes users to the lock-screen customization settings. Here, users can add lock-screen widgets and adjust settings.

There’s a new Charging Assistant, which notifies users if their phone isn’t charging at the maximum speed or if a charging limit is set. Smartphone users who prioritize battery life would appreciate the Battery Health feature, which now includes two new modes.

In addition to the “Smart Charging Mode”, the Nothing OS 3.0 has a new “Custom Charging Mode”. Activating the latter limits the phone’s battery to between 70% and 90%. This mode stops charging once the battery reaches the chosen percentage, pushing its longevity.

The Nothing OS 3.0 packs several smaller but useful features. Some core apps such as Dialer, Contacts, Gallery, and other system apps are still reportedly missing in the update. They would surely be present in the stable version of the Nothing OS 3.0, expected to arrive later this year.
