Earlier this week Nintendo Support Japan took to Twitter (spotted by Siliconera) to share a warning to all Switch console owners about condensation. According to the tweet, your Nintendo Switch can form condensation if it’s placed in a location where the temperature suddenly changes. Since condensation is moisture, and moisture and electronics don’t usually mix too well, the warning should be a tiny bit concerning.

That being said, Nintendo does tip users off on what to do in the event condensation occurs. Simply turn the power off on the Switch and put it in a warm place. Then wait for the condensation droplets to dry up. Seems easy enough. But users also need to be aware that simply tapping the power button won’t power down the console completely. That just puts the console into sleep mode.

What to do if your Nintendo Switch builds up condensation

If your Nintendo Switch forms condensation on the inside of the display, follow Nintendo’s instructions to power down the console completely. You’ll also want to make sure to do this right away. To power down the console, users need to press and hold the power button for at least 3 seconds. At this point, users should see the power off menu. Select the power off option and this will shut the console down.

In the event this doesn’t work, Nintendo has one more solution. If you press and hold the power button for 12 seconds, this will force the Switch to power off. And is typically the method you would use if the Switch were to freeze. Once powered off, users are recommended to place the Switch in a warmer room so the condensation can evaporate.

Obviously, don’t place the console under any extreme temperature increases. Such as directly next to a heater. Also worth noting is that you shouldn’t power the console back on until the condensation has disappeared. Hopefully, any users that do encounter this issue can take care of things quickly and properly to avoid having to replace the unit.
