The Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, and within just a few hours or less, stock at most or all retailers where it was being sold had been depleted, leading to the Nintendo Switch 2 blowing past the sales record for the company’s previous fastest-selling console. Of course, Nintendo didn’t reach this goal on day one, but within four days, it had passed 3.5 million units sold, making it the fastest-selling console the company has produced. That’s no easy task, especially when you’re a company that has multiple smash hit consoles like the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo 3DS.

What might make this more impressive is that Nintendo expects to sell 15 million units by the end of next March. That will be the end of Nintendo’s current financial year. Within just a few days, Nintendo has already sold more than a fifth of what it was forecasting for the above-mentioned time period. It’s not even anywhere close to the holiday shopping season either. So there’s a good chance the Switch 2 will meet the numbers Nintendo is hoping for early on.

Nintendo was always likely to reach record sales numbers with the Switch 2

While this isn’t a statement that’s backed by any data, it’s a logical assumption. And a very reasonable one at that. Especially when you look at the popularity of the Nintendo Switch. This is only more logical when you consider the hype and excitement surrounding the launch of the Switch 2. Pre-orders sold out quickly, so it stood to reason that launch stock would do the same.

Nintendo has indeed sold out of all Switch 2 stock at the moment. On top of this, most, if not all, retail partners are out of stock as well. With this kind of popularity so early on, just a few days after launch, it would be surprising if Nintendo didn’t break a sales record.

Of course, this also means the Switch 2 will likely continue to be a hard-to-acquire game console for a little while. If you didn’t get one during pre-orders or during the launch, you may be waiting a while to buy one.
