Night of the Hunted Is Not the First Time a Character Has Been Tormented by a Sniper

Colin Farrell in Phone Booth

The horror genre is of course no stranger to terrifying tormentors, with the likes of Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and the Ghostface killer no doubt the first to come to mind. But what happens when said killer can take you out from a safe distance with expert precision? That is the scary situation that Camille Rowe’s character finds herself in Night of the Hunted, but she’s not the first to enter the crosshair of a ruthless sniper.

One of the most famous examples is surely the Joel Schumacher-directed psychological thriller, Phone Booth, from back in 2002. Starring Colin Farrell, Forest Whitaker, Katie Holmes, Radha Mitchell, and Kiefer Sutherland, Phone Booth centers on an arrogant young publicist who answers a random ringing phone and quickly finds his life is at risk thanks to a malevolent sniper at the other end of the call.

Night of the Hunted is not the first time that Shudder has given audiences the tale of a murderous, sniper rifle sporting loon. Back in 2017, the horror flick Downrange was released, and finds a group of friends who, after becoming stranded at the side of the road after a tire blowout, become targets for an enigmatic sniper.

Night of the Hunted is due to premiere on Friday, October 20 on Shudder and AMC+, and looks like a more than worthy addition to the pedigree of this specific subgenre.
