In a shocking turn of events, New York prosecutors have charged a former teacher, Ryan McCaffery, with using Snapchat to manipulate teenagers by posing as one of their own. Police arrested McCaffery, 37, from Ridge, New York, on May 12, 2025, after a comprehensive investigation revealed his alleged online predatory behavior.
According to a recent press release from the New York State Police, authorities charged McCaffery with a slew of disturbing offenses, including three counts of disseminating indecent material to minors in the first degree, three counts of attempted use of a child in a sexual performance, and three counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17.
These charges are just the latest in a series of accusations against the former educator, highlighting a deeply troubling pattern of alleged abuse.
McCaffery AKA “C_chambers77”
McCaffery is accused of using the Snapchat handle “C_chambers77” to engage with minors. The investigation uncovered that McCaffery allegedly used this profile to pose as a fellow teen, gaining the trust of his young victims before steering the conversations toward explicit topics.
Authorities reported that McCaffery’s digital footprint was extensive and alarming. The probe, initiated after a tip, culminated in a January 17, 2025, raid on his residence. During the search, authorities seized multiple electronic devices, revealing what investigators described as deeply troubling evidence.
McCaffery’s done it before
This is not McCaffery’s first encounter with the law. In February 2025, he faced similar charges in Bergen County, New Jersey, where he was hit with counts of second-degree sexual assault, third-degree child endangerment, and fourth-degree lewdness. These accusations stem from sexually explicit online conversations with minors under the age of 13 dating back to 2022. Investigators believe McCaffery actively sought out vulnerable victims, exploiting their naivety and trust.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement is urging parents to be vigilant. They are asking anyone who believes their child may have had inappropriate communications with the Snapchat username “C_chambers77” to contact the New York State Police at 631-756-3300.
