The newly appointed Twitter chief, Parag Agrawal, is reportedly carrying out a “major reorganization,” according to a new report. Part of this executive rearrangement includes the departures of Dantley Davis and Michael Montano, who led the design and engineering teams at Twitter.
The report first came from The Washington Post, while Engadget confirmed the developments through an official statement. “Parag is focused on operational excellence and setting Twitter up to hit its goals; these changes were made with that in mind,” a Twitter spokesperson said.
Additionally, the company will reportedly move to a “General Manager model” for its technology and product teams. This effectively means having one individual leading these divisions. The spokesperson went on to say that this would enable “more informed decision-making.”
The reshuffling will reportedly impact the “consumer, revenue, and core tech divisions”
The Post quotes an internal companywide email which states that Davis and Montano would leave by the end of the year, which is just a few weeks away at this point. The report further states that the realignment will primarily impact “consumer, revenue, and core tech divisions.”
There were indications of this happening following Dorsey’s departure from the CEO post. It’s worth noting that the former CEO will continue to be a member of the Board until May 2022.
“I’ve decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders. My trust in Parag as Twitter’s CEO is deep. His work over the past ten years has been transformational. I’m deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It’s his time to lead,” Dorsey said in an official statement.
The reorganization elevates Salesforce President and COO Bret Taylor to the position of Chairman of the Board. Taylor succeeded Patrick Pichette, who was formerly a Google executive.
The departure of Dorsey is significant for Twitter, especially given his close involvement with the company. First as a co-founder and CEO until 2008, and then again as the CEO in 2015. Since then, the platform has witnessed exponential growth, though it currently faces a steady stream of challenges from rival social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
