A new rumor has popped up suggesting that a Pixel Tablet Pro model, may not actually be a thing after all. Back in 2022, a rumor surfaced that stated Google would be looking to release two versions of the Pixel tablet it announced at its Fall event, a “pro” model and a standard model. Now it seems that may not be the case.

Today on Twitter, user Kuba Wojciechowski has given out new details on the upcoming device. The thread contains numerous pieces of information including specs, a few new images, and details about the potential pro model. Or lack of thereof as it would now appear.

Initially Wojciechowski was under the impression that both devices would be using different chipsets but would otherwise come with fairly similar specifications across the board. The non-pro model would be using Google’s first generation Tensor chip, while the pro model would feature the Tensor G2. Which Google introduced alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones. New information suggests Google has changed its plans.

Rumor suggests Pixel Tablet Pro may not really be “pro” after all

According to Wojciechowski, an anonymous source says Google has cancelled its plans for the non-pro model of the Pixel Tablet. Instead opting to release just the one model powered by the Tensor G2 chip. If this is true, then it begs the question of whether it can really be considered a pro model if there’s no standard model with less powerful hardware.

The rumor also lists some new key specs. A current testing unit is said to have 8GB of Samsung LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of Kioxia UFS storage. Additional specs details include a fingerprint reader on the side of the device, and a display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution. Which puts it fairly close to 1440p, though not quite.

Speaking of the display, Wojciechowski suggests that Google may have forgone an OLED panel for an LCD. As for the images, they show off the tablet from multiple angles. Although there’s not really anything different from previously leaked images. The Pixel Tablet is planned for a release sometime in 2023, but Google hasn’t confirmed a specific launch date yet.
