Quite recently, we reported that a OnePlus 9 series update can do considerable damage. It was bricking devices, and OnePlus paused the update recently. It didn’t take the company long to fix things, though. A new update is now rolling out to the OnePlus 9 series which fixes the bricking problem.
The OnePlus 9 series is getting a new update that fixes the bricking problem
Do note that this was an issue only in India, it would seem. It was an issue with the F.19 version of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro devices. So, luckily, it did not happen in other markets, as it would have done even more damage than it already did.
What exactly happened? Well, well, updates which are marked as ‘LE2111_11.F.F19’ and ‘LE2121.11.F.19’ for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, respectively, essentially soft-bricked some devices. An update would install, but you couldn’t really get back into your phone after that, as it wouldn’t boot properly.
Needless to say, that’s not ideal. Imagine installing an update and not being able to use your phone after that. Luckily OnePlus reacted fast, at least, even though this should not have happened in the first place.
If your device ended up being bricked, you should get OnePlus to fix it
Users who got their devices bricked in the process should contact OnePlus, and send their phones to a service center. There’s probably also a way to fix things yourself, but you really need to know what you’re doing.
The new update, which is rolling out to Indian users, is marked as ‘LE.2111.11.F.20’ for the OnePlus 9, and ‘LE2121_11.F.20’ for the OnePlus 9 Pro. If you’re still on the F.18 version, you can update directly to the F.20, as the F.19 version has been stopped. So, just make sure it’s F.20 before you update, just in case.
At the moment, the update is rolling out to a smaller batch of users. OnePlus wants to make sure everything is in order. It will start rolling out the update widely soon, so everyone will be able to update. And yes, this is your regular OTA (over-the-air) update.
