Samsung has released a new Android 12-based One UI 4.0 beta update to the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series in the US. It’s the second beta build and comes with fixes for a bunch of bugs introduced with the previous release. The latest update is identified by firmware version number “ZUKA” (via).
According to the official changelog, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series are picking up a fix for the laggy adaptive refresh rate issue with the latest update. This could be the same issue that many Galaxy S21 users have reported following the stable One UI 4.0 update last week. It caused the device to switch from a 120Hz refresh rate to 60Hz as soon as the user lifts their finger from the screen. As a result, animations and scrolling appeared jittery. Samsung recently released a hotfix for this issue on the Galaxy S21 series. It appears the same fix is now rolling out to the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series as well.
Additionally, the changelog for the second One UI 4.0 beta for the 2020 Galaxy flagships mentions a fix for Quick Share icon errors. The new update also fixes issues with Samsung’s Clear View Display Cover. Last but not least, we have improvements coming to the Messages app.
The latest One UI 4.0 beta for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series is now rolling out to eligible users in the US. Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra users in the UK have also reportedly received this update. It should reach more users in the coming days. As always, beta users can download the latest release over the air (OTA) from the Software update menu on the Settings app. This update is accompanied by the December 2021 Android security patch.
Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series pick up second One UI 4.0 beta update
Samsung opened the One UI 4.0 beta program for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series earlier this month. It widely rolled out the beta build to both of its 2020 flagships last week. Now, we have another beta build coming their way. We expect the devices to pick up at least one more beta update before the stable One UI 4.0 arrives. Samsung could release the stable update sometime next month.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 are nearing the stable One UI 4.0 update as well. The new foldables picked up the third beta build earlier this week. They should receive the stable release ahead of the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series.
