A new trailer and poster for director Jordan Peele’s upcoming science-fiction horror, Nope, offer further glimpses at the extra-terrestrial threat at the center of this mysterious movie. Nope has been shrouded in secrecy ever since it was first announced, but thanks to the most recent promos (released via Twitter), we now have a much better idea of what to expect when the movie lands in theaters next month.

After spending so much time wrapped up in mystery, this latest trailer gives us some pretty extensive looks at the U.F.O. that will torment main characters O.J. and Emerald Haywood, played by Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer respectively. Featuring a lot of footage of characters looking up in both awe and terror, Nope will center on the residents of an isolated town in California, among them ranch-owning siblings James and Jill Haywood, who are tormented by the presence of an unidentified flying object, also known as a U.F.O. The latest poster for Nope further combines the U.F.O. tale with the ranch setting.

Further details regarding the plot specifics of Nope have also now been unveiled, with the Haywood siblings attempting to use the presence of the U.F.O. to make some money after spotting the flying object hovering over their ranch. After witnessing the peculiar shape in the sky, they decide to make the best of the situation, with the pair attempting to capture the U.F.O. on film and perhaps save their ranch from closing down.

Of course, this is a Jordan Peele movie rather than a family alien adventure flick, and thus the Haywoods find themselves at the mercy of the U.F.O. Their attempts to film the spacecraft enrages the aliens inside, leading them to attack the town and seemingly abduct both horses and humans.

Written, directed, and produced by Jordan Peele under his Monkeypaw Productions, Nope stars Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja), Michael Wincott (Hitchcock, Westworld), Brandon Perea (The OA, American Insurrection), as well as Barbie Ferreira, Donna Mills, Jennifer Lafleur, Andrew Patrick Ralston, and Keith David alongside Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah) and Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Lightyear).

Jordan Peele Has Called Nope His Most Ambitious Project So Far

Academy Award winner Jordan Peele first disrupted and redefined the modern horror with the disturbing Get Out before doing it all over again with the equally creepy Us. While his output so far has already been hugely ambitious, Peele himself has recently teased the sheer ambition of Nope, calling it the most “ambitious” cinematic event of his career so far.

“You know, this whole film is all about as ambitious a cinematic event as I have planned so far in my career,” Peele said of the project. “I tried to write a script that I didn’t know how to pull off, and then assembled a team to help me pull it off. It’s just, this is just one of these days in these weeks where it feels really good to be a director.”

Nope is scheduled to be released on July 22, 2022, by Universal Pictures.
