The trailer for Netflix’s documentary has the Baywatch star telling her story in her own words and addressing the leaked sex tape that made her ‘sick’
Pamela Anderson, the bombshell Baywatch star and model-turned-actress from the 90s is telling her life story in Netflix’s new documentary Pamela, a love story, in her own words. The documentary is set to drop on January 31st on Netflix and from the looks of the trailer, Pamela will be addressing her career, being a woman in Hollywood, and the infamous leaked sex-tape with ex-husband and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee.
The trailer is set to The Cardigan’s hit song “Lovefool” from 1996, but it has been slowed down to an almost eerie pace. When reporting on the release, PEOPLE described the version of the song as ‘haunting.’ The trailer dives right into the heart of the controversy with a now 55-year-old Anderson addressing the sex-tape and saying, “I wanna take control of the narrative for the first time.” That line may also hint at how Anderson will address the upcoming Hulu show about the Playboy alum’s sex-tape fiasco, in which Anderson herself had no part in the making of the show.
Director Ryan White, in an interview with PEOPLE shares, “She’s [Anderson] telling her story in her own words, finally, but she also doesn’t know which archival videos and personal diaries will be used in the final film,” White goes on to say, “She gave us carte blanche to use the archival [footage for] how we thought best told the story, it’s a sign of how authentically Pamela has lived her life. She owns every part of her life — the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s an incredibly vulnerable but brave way to live.”
Pamela Anderson Surprised Director Ryan White and ‘Ended Up Being the Opposite of [a] Preconceived Notion’
As the trailer shows, Anderson is front and center at telling her own story, but White says, “Pamela is very experiential and always on the move — I describe her like a fairy, always floating. So when it came to shooting, she was up for anything, because she loves an adventure. She told me, ‘Ask me anything — nothing is off limits, but in regards to the edit, she didn’t play any role at all. She has no interest in seeing the final film because for her it’s all about the experience of making something and staying in that moment.”
White went on to talk about the former Baywatch actress saying, “[Anderson] ended up being the opposite of [a] preconceived notion” he had. White says that Anderson even chose to shoot without make-up for a lot of the filming, “So she still very much has that small-town island girl in her — extremely laid-back,” White says of Anderson
“I remember asking her [Anderson], ‘How do you want to handle hair and makeup?’ And she laughed and said, ‘I live on an island in Canada. I’ll do my own hair and makeup.’ ” – Director Ryan White
According to White, “Pamela is unapologetically Pamela,” and that is what the director loves most about her. “And that means, despite how many times she’s been burned or traumatized, she’s going to continue soldiering through life with that hopeful and romantic free-spirit attitude, it’s infectious,” says White.
