Thinking she’d put her dangerous past behind her, Lou (Allison Janney) finds her quiet life interrupted when a desperate mother (Jurnee Smollett) begs her to save her kidnapped daughter. As a massive storm rages, the two women risk their lives on a rescue mission that will test their limits and expose dark and shocking secrets from their pasts.
Lou Is Also Produced by Allison Janney and Jurnee Smollett
“Lou was the first film I produced, and I definitely see myself stepping more into that role,” Smollett said of pulling double duty as a star and producer of the movie, per the New York Times. “I hope to usher more unique voices and filmmakers who are creating inclusive stories, centering folks who aren’t normally centered in these types of stories.”
But we can also expect to see plenty of Smollett on the screen as she is certainly not stepping away from acting. Along with her new role in Lou, Smollett also has a Black Canary movie in the works that will reunite her with Lovecraft Country creator Misha Green. She can also be seen in the upcoming courtroom drama film The Burial and was last seen in the Netflix movie Spiderhead with Chris Hemsworth.
Janney is of course well known for her work as a veteran actor, having picked up an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and seven Emmys. After starring in shows like The West Wing and Mom, Janney more recently lined up a role in the upcoming sci-fi film True Love in addition to appearing in Lou. She also appears in the upcoming comedy movie The People We Hate at the Wedding with Kristen Bell and Ben Platt.
Lou is set to start streaming on Netflix on Sept. 23, 2022.
