Netflix has released the official trailer for the high-octane action film, Fistful of Vengeance. Starring The Raid breakout star Iko Uwais in the lead, Fistful of Vengeance is a follow-up movie to the action series Wu Assassins. The film will premiere on Netflix on February 17 and promises the same incredible display of martial arts and supernatural action that made Wu Assassins one of Netflix’s best shows of 2019. You can check out the trailer below.

The official synopsis for Fistful of Vengeance reads: “A revenge mission becomes a fight to save the world from an ancient threat when superpowered assassin Kai tracks a killer to Bangkok.”

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fistful of Vengeance continues from where Wu Assassins ended and sees Kai Jin (Iko Uwais) and friends drawn back into the fighting world to avenge the death of a loved one. For those unaware, Wu Assassins follows an unassuming San Francisco chef who gains supernatural powers and becomes the Wu Assassin to save the world. Created by John Wirth (Hell of Wheels) and Tony Krantz (24), Wu Assassins stars Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat), Byron Mann (Street Fighter), Lawrence Kao (Sleepy Hollow), Celia Au (Lodge 49), Li Jun Li (Quantico), Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy), and Katheryn Winnick (Vikings).

Wu Assassins debuted on Netflix in August 2019 and was an instant success, receiving critical acclaim for its fight choreography and Asian representation. Fans have been campaigning for season two of Wu Assassins but to no avail. Fortunately, the show wasn’t canceled, which, judging by Netflix’s recent decisions, wouldn’t come as a big surprise now. Finally, in early 2021, Netflix announced a 90-minute feature film titled Fistful of Vengeance to continue the story, with most of the cast returning. New additions to the cast include Jason Tobin, Pearl Thusi, Francesca Corney, Tony Kranz, and Rhatha Phongaam. Roel Reiné (Halo, Death Race 3) directs Fistful of Vengeance from a screenplay by Cameron Litvack, Jessica Chou, and Yalun Tu.

The trailer makes it clear that Netflix has spared no expense for the Fistful of Vengeance. Incredible close combat sequences, gunfights, car chases, seedy underworld, and mystical forces trying to take over the world, the film seems to have it all. Hopefully, it will be enough to warrant a season two (or 2.5 now) of Wu Assassins.
