Netflix has won the bidding war for the distribution rights to 50 Cent’s upcoming Diddy documentary Diddy Do It. Production is ongoing, but the documentary will focus on allegations against rapper and producer Diddy.

One of the most controversial figures in music today, rapper and producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, was instrumental in discovering and producing artists such as Usher, the Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and more. Diddy’s career as a producer, rap artist, and business entrepreneur has always been plagued with controversy. However, Combs’ downfall is inevitable thanks to historical and recent sexual assault allegations and new evidence brought to public attention.

50 Cent, hip-hop artist, producer, and the founder of G-Unit Film & Television, added further fuel to the fire in December 2023 when he announced that his production company would be producing a documentary on the allegations that were levied against Combs and all proceeds would be donated to victims of sexual assault.

Thanks to the scale of public interest, the bidding war for the documentary Diddy Do It was massive. Multiple television networks and streaming platforms vied for distribution rights, and Netflix ultimately won.

What are the allegations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs?

There are multiple allegations of sexual assault from numerous victims of Combs. Arguably the most high profile of these allegations was from his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, who in November 2023 filed a lawsuit against the producer accusing him of rape, sex trafficking, and physical abuse. There was also an accusation of him being responsible for blowing up a car that belonged to Ventura’s then-boyfriend, Kid Cudi.

The day after the lawsuit was filed, Ventura and Combs reached an undisclosed settlement, and the lawsuit was dismissed. However, within a week, two alleged victims came forward and filed further lawsuits against Combs, which included further sexual assault allegations and revenge porn.

In February 2024, a fifth lawsuit was filed against Combs by music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, who was also suing Combs for sexual assault.

In March, the Department of Homeland Security raided Combs’ properties in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. The BBC reported that federal agents had seized multiple computers and other electronic devices.

In April, Combs was also listed as a defendant in a case against his son, Christian, who had alleged to have sexually assaulted former employee Grace O’Marcaigh. Combs’ involvement in the case is due to his alleged aiding and abetting his son in the assault and paying to cover it up afterward.

Fresh allegations have also been made by a sixth person who has filed a lawsuit against Combs for sexual assault that took place in 2003.

Diddy’s Downfall

Starting in November 2023, in the wake of the first allegations made against Sean Combs, his clothing brand, Sean John, was pulled from Macy’s department and online stores. Combs’ e-commerce business, Empower Global, saw mutliple companies end their affiliation with the company. This was followed by Hulu reportedly canceling a reality series to center on Combs and his family. He also stepped down as the chairman of Revolt TV.

After publicly defending himself against the allegations on multiple occasions, his downfall was all but confirmed on May 17th, 2024, when CNN published CCTV video footage of Combs assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, on March 5th, 2016.

When is Diddy Do It coming to Netflix?

At the time of writing, there is no confirmed release date for Diddy Do It. Production is reportedly ongoing, and as more details surface surrounding the allegations made against Combs, G-Unit Film & Television will be hard at work trying to squeeze all of the details into the docuseries.

We expect to learn more details soon.
