Tommyʼs never been on a date, kissed a girl, cooked, nor does he own a personal bank account — leaving him with no adult skills. After years of Tommy pleading his unlikely best friend Nem (a 6’9” former pro-ball player and comedian) to “help him with the ladies,” Nem and his friends agree to take Tommy on an epic, cross-continental quest of challenges out of his comfort zone to rediscover the adulthood he never had.”

How Will This Real-Life Tale of a 40-Year-Old Virgin Fare Against Its Fictional Counterpart?
Released back in 2005, the fictional case of The 40-Year-Old Virgin stars Steve Carell as the titular adult virgin Andy Stitzer, an amiable single guy who works at a big-box store. Living alone, Andy spends his free time playing video games and curating his action-figure collection. Despite his age, Andy has never had sex, so his friends, including David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco), and Cal (Seth Rogen), push Andy towards losing his virginity. Of course, much awkward hilarity ensues as Andy struggles to overcome his shyness and make the beast with two backs.
Directed by Judd Apatow, and written by both Apatow and Carell, The 40-Year-Old Virgin was a massive success at the box office, grossing over $177 million worldwide on a $26 million budget and marking a triumphant return for R rated comedies. Also starring Catherine Keener, Elizabeth Banks, Leslie Mann, and Jane Lynch, The 40-Year-Old Virgin was also met with high praise from critics, who applauded Steve Carell’s sweet-natured turn as Andy amid all the raunchy comedy.
We wait to see how the real-life saga centered on a 40-year-old virgin in My Friend Tommy will fare against the legacy of the fictional Judd Apatow and Steven Carell comedy. Be sure to check it out Oct. 24 on digital platforms.
