It happens; you grow tired of a streaming service, and you decide that you’d be better off at another one. The issue is that you spent years crafting your library of 70s pop, 80s new wave, 90s R&B, early 2000s rock, and classical music, and you don’t want to track all of that down again. Well, there’s a new tool that will make moving from YouTube Music to Apple Music much easier.
Just recently, we got a new tool that allows people to move their library from Apple Music or iTunes Match over to YouTube Music. It’s a neat and pretty surprising move on Apple’s part. We all know Apple as the company with one of the tallest walled gardens. If you’re looking to switch up, then you should read the Apple Support document.
Moving from YouTube Music to Apple Music is much easier
The aforementioned tool isn’t only for moving from Apple’s to Google’s music streaming service; it also works in reverse. This time, Google posted a support document explaining how users can transfer their music. Just know that you can only transfer playlists that you created yourself.
How to move your music
If you’re ready to jump ship, then there are a few things that you’ll need to do. Firstly, you’ll need to be logged into both of the services. Once you’re signed in, there are two paths that you can take. You can either go through Google Takeout or head to your account dashboard. If you’re using Google Takeout, then you’ll need to follow the on-screen prompts. They will guide you through the process.
However, if you prefer to go at it with the second method, then the process will be different. Go there and head to the Recently used Google services section and find YouTube. You should see a Transfer data button at the bottom of the section.
On the next screen, you’ll be able to choose what data to copy over. After choosing that, you’ll need to sign in to your Google account to verify that it’s you trying to move over the data.
On the next screen, you’ll see a dropdown menu letting you know what services you can transfer to. Select Apple Music. This will start the process of bringing your YouTube content over to Apple Music.
At this point, you’ll sign in to your Apple Music account and continue. After that point, you’ll see an email from Google letting you know when the process is finished.
