OnePlus may launch a new OnePlus 10 series phone soon, or maybe two. There have been multiple leaks lately regarding a OnePlus 10/10T. While some reports suggest them to be the same device, there are also hints of them being two different models. Either way, one interesting thing that we noticed in leaked renders of the phone is the lack of an “alert slider” physical key that OnePlus phones have had for years. For once, we suspected the authenticity of the renders but it appears the removal was a deliberate decision from the company, unfortunately.
According to tipster Yogesh Brar, OnePlus plans to reserve the alert slider to select “Pro” models. In that respect, the OnePlus 10 Pro does have it. But when it comes to non-Pro models, the OnePlus Nord 2T was reportedly the last one to get the iconic physical key. Meanwhile, the company will share the tech with OPPO, its sister firm that it merged with last year. Upcoming OPPO flagships are said to offer an alert slider too.
If true, this is a disappointing move from the company. The physical alert slider key has been one of its integral features. Removing it may put many prospective OnePlus buyers, or even existing users, off. But it appears the decision is no longer in its hands following the OPPO merger. OnePlus has been relegated to mostly selling re-branded OPPO and Realme phones, rather than designing its own.
Of course, this is merely a rumor for now. But we wouldn’t be surprised in the alert slider is gone from future OnePlus phones. The company has been losing its identity lately after quickly emerging through the ranks as one of the biggest names in the Android space. Oh, how times have changed.
Alert slider-less OnePlus 10 or 10T is coming
As mentioned earlier, OnePlus is readying a new 10-series model sans the alert slider. While there’s some confusion regarding whether it will arrive as the OnePlus 10 or the OnePlus 10T, we know most of its key specs. Leaks suggest the device will feature a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor will power the phone with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The OnePlus 10/10T will be equipped with a 50-megapixel primary rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilization. We also have a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 2-megapixel macro camera at the back. There’s a 32-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls. A 4,800mAh battery with 150W super-fast charging is also part of the package. The device will ship with Android 12-based OxygenOS 12.
