Warner Bros. Games and NetheRealm Studios have just released their latest title called Mortal Kombat Onslaught, and it arrives today for both iOS and Android devices. This is a global release which means it’ll be available in most regions. Though unlike the already available Mortal Kombat title on mobile, this isn’t a fighting game. It’s actually a collection RPG and plays a lot like a turn-based tactical RPG when it comes to combat.

It’s an interesting take for a series that’s been so engrossed in the fast-paced fighting genre for decades. Even if we have seen Mortal Kombat games in other forms before a cRPG definitely feels like new ground for the franchise. And one that players might be happy to have made available to them. This is a free-to-play game so expect micro transactions to be there to some degree. Though at this time it’s unclear how aggressive they are or if they’re aggressive at all. Either way, it’s a free game to get your Mortal Kombat fix while you’re away from your PC or console and not able to play Mortal Kombat 1.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught has an all-new story only available on mobile

Those playing Mortal Kombat 1 will be happy to know that the story here with Onslaught isn’t just a rehashed version of that story. It’s an all-new story developed for this title exclusively on mobile devices. Which means you get a fresh experience from the narrative side of things. And for an RPG that’s a good thing.

There’s plenty of high-quality cinematics to tie together the moment-to-moment battles, and the story seems to revolve around finding powerful relics that have fallen into the hands of Shao Kahn. There are multiple modes of play including Arena, Story mode, Boss Tower, Chasm. Each with a different style of mechanic to diversify the gameplay.

You can collect tons of iconic fighters from across the series including fan-favorites like Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Sindel, Jax and many others. Though you can only have four fighters in your team at any one time. You’ll also want to think about who you want in your team for certain activities. As some team comps are bound to be better for certain engagements. You can watch the launch trailer for Mortal Kombat: Onslaught above, and grab the game to play on your device from the link below.
