Google has redesigned its weather app, and those with either the Pixel Fold or the Pixel Tablet have been able to view it. Other Pixel phone users have been out of luck, unfortunately. However, according to 9to5Google, that’s about to change. The Google Weather redesign is making its way to more Pixel phones.
What’s new?
With the old design, you’ll open the app to a search bar up top with a three-tab view right below. The tabs are Today, Tomorrow, and 10 Days. You’ll access more details in each tab by simply scrolling down.
With the new design, the three-tab view is replaced by a singular scrolling feed. At the top of the feed, you’ll have the Now section. This section has the information that you’d find in the Today tab. You’ll still get an illustration depicting the weather in the background. Right under that section, you’ll see an hourly forecast for the day. This will give you the conditions for the next 24 hours.
Moving down the feed, you’ll see the 10-day forecast. It’s a vertical list that shows you some useful at-a-glance information about the next 10 days. However, if you want more in-depth information about each day, you can tap on a day. This will open up a fullscreen page with more information on that day. You can scroll down on that page, as Google gives you a ton of information.
Back to the main feed, when you scroll down further, you’ll see a grid of cards with pretty much the same information that you’d see on one of the 10-day forecast pages. Only, it will be about the current day. You’ll see information like the UV index, Pressure, Wind, and sunrise/sunset. This is where you get all of the in-depth information about the conditions.
A neat addition is the Google Nowcast. If it’s going to rain/snow soon, you’ll see a section under the Now section. This will show you how heavy the precipitation will be over the next 12 hours.
The Weather app redesign is coming to more Pixel phones
Over the past couple of days, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6a owners started seeing the new redesign. This means that Google has finally started rolling this update out to more people. It’s a server-side update, so you won’t be able to see it by installing the latest version of the Google app; you’ll have to be patient.
We’re not sure about the rollout schedule for this feature, so you’ll just want to wait a couple of days. In order to access the new weather app, tap on the weather on your At a Glance widget.
