Microsoft is reportedly working on a new feature for its Edge browser that allows users to switch between work and personal profiles easily.
The update for Microsoft Edge turns the browser into a useful hybrid tool for work and personal stuff. The feature automatically switches between profiles and removes the need for manually switching. For example, when you’re opening a work link on a personal profile, the browser automatically switches to the work profile (or vice-versa). The feature can bring more flexibility and privacy to the Edge browser.
The Microsoft 365 roadmap highlights the change to the GuidedSwitchEnabled policy and gives details about the feature. “The GuidedSwitchEnabled policy allows Microsoft Edge to prompt the user to switch to the appropriate profile when Microsoft Edge detects that a link is a personal or work link,” Microsoft noted.
The update adds a hybrid working tool to the Edge browser
Of course, the feature is still in the development phase and not available to users. But the company confirms it can go live in June 2022. So maybe you can receive it in the coming month.
The only vague matter here is how Microsoft Edge wants to detect the difference between a personal or work link. Microsoft says the update rolls out globally, using the web-based version of the tool.
Companies like Microsoft and Google are paying more attention to hybrid working. The hybrid tools allow employees to create boundaries between work and personal stuff, which leads to a better focus on tasks.
Google Workspace has also announced a similar update that prevents work and personal stuff from overlapping. The update allows users to split the work and personal profiles and easily switch between them whenever needed.
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic is almost over and employees are back in the office, many employees still prefer to work from home. Adding such hybrid and productivity tools to popular apps will help remote employees to stay focused and remove distractions.
