Meta exec, Adam Mosseri, has announced that Threads now counts 200 million users. The company managed to achieve that in less than 13 months, as it was launched on July 5, 2023.
Threads has managed to hit 200 million users 13 months after launch
During Meta’s earnings call, Zuckerberg said that Threads is “about” to hit 200 million users. Just a day after that, Adam Mosseri confirmed that it has happened. No matter what way you look at it, this is a huge success for Threads.
The X competitor managed to get tons of users soon after launch. The key was to keep growing and keep those users. Threads has seemingly done a really good job with that. Having 200 million users after a bit over a year is… great success.
Last month, it was announced that the social media app hit 175 million users. Back then, it was confirmed that 25 million users arrived in the last two months. Well, now, a month later, and an additional 25 million users have seemingly joined.
Mark Zuckerberg said the following: “We’ve been building this company for 20 years, and there just are not that many opportunities that come around to grow a billion-person app”. He also added: “Obviously, there’s a ton of work between now and there”.
Threads do not have ads at this point
Threads will need to keep growing in order for Meta to monetize it. The social media platform does not have ads or a business model at the moment. Zuckerberg explained that there is a multi-year time horizon between scaling these products, and then scaling them into “not just consumer experiences but very large businesses”.
Threads does have a lot of work to do. Various new features have been added since the launch, but there are some issues. The ‘for you’ algorithm Threads is using is considered to be “slow” to keep up with breaking news and current events. Adam Mosseri said that it’s “not fast enough”, but that the company is “working to get better there”.
